The Spark+Mettle Art Award 2015

If there is one thing Spark+Mettle loves, it is providing networks and a platform for young people to showcase their skills—and the Mettle Exhibition was no exception. Artists between the ages of 18-24 from all over the UK (and beyond, in one case) created brilliant pieces of art based on the theme of mettle.

The exhibition was held at The Russet; this inaugural affair saw artists and guests alike mingle to appreciate the variety of artwork on show. From paintings to photographs—each artist had a completely unique take on the theme, which was great to see.

The climax of the evening was announcing the winner and two runners up:

Second runner up: Christine P Newman

First runner up: Christie Brewster

The winner of the very first Spark+Mettle Art Award was Eunice Cornejo. As well as an award, Eunice went home with:

  • £250 worth of goodies from Little Greene

  • work experience with award-winning photographer Richard Booth

  • six months’ worth of  mentoring from an established artist

  • an opportunity to exhibit her work for a short time at The Hospital Club

We would like to thank all of the Art Award finalists—without them, there would have been no exhibition and we were thrilled to be able to partner with them to showcase their work.

A special thanks also goes to The Russet for hosting and feeding us; Little Greene for their very generous contributions and all of our wonderful judges:

  • Photographer Richard Booth

  • Dye House owner, Nicky Chambers

  • The Hospital Club’s Exhibitions Programmer, Ali Hillman

  • Visual Culture Lecturer, George Shire

  • Artist, Nicky Hirst

All the finished works are available for auction until 31st December 2015. To view and purchase any of the works, please visit: Spark+Mettle Art Award.
